This is a list of basic subjects for which the English Wikipedia should have a corresponding featured article. It is a duplicate of the list of articles every Wikipedia should have but, due to English Wikipedia having them all, now serves as a guide for featured articles.

The original version of this list is from Simple English Wikipedia. See also the version on Meta, m:List of articles all languages should have, which is also reproduced at Wikipedia:Vital articles/Expanded. This is the supposedly canonical list — changes should be made there if possible.

There are currently 674 articles on this list. All these articles exist on en:, but ideally, Wikipedia 1.0 should have all these articles up to featured quality. Many of these have a long way to go. Please work on improving as needed. Articles that are already on Wikipedia:Featured articles are marked with a star (); articles that are considered Good articles are marked with a green circle (Template:GAicon). Articles that are currently stubs or have cleanup tags on them and thus need to be improved as soon as possible are marked in bold.
