About[edit]

This is Frequently Asked Questions about Infoshop.org, version 3.0 with little changes (Infoshop banners are excluded, you can see them at original page). This FAQ is last updated: June 7, 2002.

How can I help support your great work?[edit]

You can help us by spreading the word about Infoshop.org to friends, family, co-workers, and relatives. We are trying to build an alternative to the corporate-controlled media, so we need people to visit our site, especially folks who aren't the "usual suspects." You can also make links to this site from you website. If you have text materials that fit our scope, we prefer marked-up (in HTML4.0) files sent via email.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with the following:

  • We need anarchists and anti-authoritarians who are interested in writing opinion pieces on current events and controversies
  • We are looking for writers who are interested in writing in depth about anarchist issues and current events.
  • We would like to translate many of the MA Infoshop pages into Spanish, so we are looking for a Spanish translator.
  • We need motivated volunteers to help develop special sections like the Internet Anarchist University and the Anarchy Youth pages.
  • We need people to make their own websites to join with us to create resistance to the e-commerce cultists and global plugged-in capitalism.

Please check out our pages on volunteering, promotion and donations.

Do you have graphics that I can put on my website to link to yours?[edit]

Yes, we've just cooked up a new batch, which are shown below. Please make your link to www.infoshop.org, and not one of our mirrors. If you have a suggestion for a slogan, or would like a custom graphic made, send us e-mail.

What is your slant on anarchism? Why aren't you posting material on anarcho-______?<[edit]

Infoshop.org is committed to promoting and featuring all aspects of contemporary anarchism and anti-authoritarianism. We support the development of critical-thinking skills, so we'll err on the side of posting a bad article if it is relevant to a current discussion within anarchism. Infoshop.org is an ecumenical place for anarchists, one that doesn't take sides, whenever possible. Of course, this precludes nonsense like anarcho-capitalism and third positionism.

Will you post my news story?[edit]

We post news stories about a wide range of subjects. We prefer that stories be written from an anti-authoritarian perspective, but we are flexible. If you are sending us a news story, please mark it up and send it as an email attachment. Unsolicited news that isn't marked-up will be given a lower priority for posting. We reserve the right to reject news stories that don't match the purpose of this site.

I found a broken link. Please fix it.[edit]

We can update the broken link, but PLEASE tell us which page you found it on. We're checking links all the time, but changes may take weeks.

Where are you located?[edit]

In cyberspace, stupid. We don't have a physical location, but most of our crew are located in the Washington, DC area. We have contributors from just about every place with breathable air. Yes, that precludes Mars and Mexico City.

What is your snail-mail address?[edit]

If you really, really need to mail us something, email us for our address. We don't need any unnecessary junk mail.

Who is behind this site?<[edit]

A netwrok of anarchists and anti-authoritarians coordinated by this crazy guy who calls himself "Chuck0." That's pronounced Chuck-Oh, not "Chuck Zero."

Can you send me the Anarchist Cookbook?[edit]

No. If you want to know why, see our Anarchist Cookbook page. We are compiling a cookbook of food recipes, but if you want that crappy book, contact your local bookstore. The Anarchist Cookbook has nothing to do with anarchy, which is why we can't help you. Please don't bother to send us email saying that we are gay. We hear that lame insult all the time.

Can you send me bomb-making information?[edit]

No. See the answer above.

Should bomb-making information on the Internet be banned?[edit]

No. Bomb-making information has been available in books, magazines, and newspapers throughout the 20th century. You've always been able to get that information from the library, so the Internet doesn't really change anything. People should focus on changing society in positive ways so that we can eliminate the need for anti-social people, such as Bill Clinton, to throw bombs.

Have Democrats or Republicans ever thrown bombs? Shouldn't they, not anarchists, be called bomb-throwers?[edit]

Yes. There is plenty of evidence that Democrats and Republicans are the biggest bomb-throwers. Democrat Harry Truman threw two atom bombs at Japan. Republican Richard Nixon dropped tons of bombs on Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Demopublican BIll Clinton has dropped more bombs than any peacetime president, specifically the countries of Yugoslavia, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, and Afghanistan. There is currently an effort to charge him with war crimes in Yugoslavia.

Can you help me get my book published?[edit]

If it's a book related to anarchism, we might be able to refer you to some good publishers. If it's a book of conspiracy theories, we really don't give a fuck.

Do you folks need money?[edit]

While it costs us next to nothing to keep this website running, the webmaster has to eat and pay rent. Infoshop.org is very much a labor of love, but a hungry webmaster is one who can't code very well.

If you want to send money, send us an email and we'll send our postal address.

What is your policy on privacy?[edit]

We track visits with log files and rarely look at those logs. We use that information only to determine which pages are the most popular and least popular, and to detect any problems. Emails to this site are kept confidential, with the exception of hate mail, which will be publicly posted with the sender's email. If you are dumb enough to ask us for the Anarchist Cookbook or to send homophobic insults, we will post your stupidity for the whole world to see. This is your reward for wasting our time.

Can you help me with research or a class project?[edit]

We can offer limited help, depending on our time. Most likely, we'll refer you to another website or post your request to a list.

Can you post information about my event?[edit]

Only if it is of interest to anarchists. Maintaining a calendar is hard work, which is why we can't post just any radical event. If we install some calendaring software in the future this policy may change.

Has your site ever been filtered?[edit]

The Mid-Atlantic Infoshop/Infoshop.org has been filtered and continues to be filtered by several censorware products, for a variety of reasons. In late July 1999, a report prepared by Censorware.net found that this website is being filtered by Bess. This basically means that students in all 50 states of the USA are not be able to use their school computers to access this site in order to write papers on Emma Goldman, Sacco and Vanzetti, or simply about anarchism. If you have problems reaching this site, let us know.

Are you available for interviews?[edit]

If you are a member of the corporate press, we will only do email or phone interviews with you. If you are a member of the alternative press, we will do any kind of interview, depending on the openess of our schedule. If you have general questions about the contemporary anarchist movement, please check out "A Quick Guide to Anarchy for Journalists" or An Anarchist FAQ.

You don't have the facts correct about the Mumia case. He's a guilty cop killer[edit]

No, we know the facts about Mumia's case. He should be freed. We've been working on his case for over 4 years. Don't patronize us with some lame rhetoric you heard from the boss media.

Can I reprint material from your site in my zine?[edit]

Yes, as long as the article isn't copyrighted and that you correctly identify the source. Please note that special Infoshop.org features have embargo dates for print publications. This means that your magazine or zine can't reprint the text until after the embargo date, which is listed on the bottom of the page (when appropriate). This mostly applies to Infoshop.org interviews, reviews and feature articles.

What is your position on gun control?[edit]

We are in favor of gun control for states and militaries. We seek immediate disarmament of all militaries, which have caused enough death and suffering in the 20th century. We feel that gun control for the average Jane or Joe shouldn't be even on the table until states have disarmed and discontinued their violent ways.

What is your position on Zionism?[edit]

As Zionism is a philosophy that promotes the existence of a state, we anarchists have to oppose that.
